Opinions on the use of technology in the classroom

Teachers must understand that ever-changing technologies affect the ways in which students may demonstrate their competencies in such areas as, creativity, critical thinking, research, communication, and all other areas that demand a type of literacy.
I believe that technology’s role in education is to provide assistance in the learning process in a real world way.  In other words, students use technology every day, and by continuing its use in the classroom there is no break in the familiarization of how they experience reality and investigate their world.  Because the realities of technology are so ubiquitous to today’s students, motivation to learn is strongly tied to its familiar assistances.
I believe that using technology in a much too passive manner, such as watching TV or podcasts, do not afford much in the way increasing test scores, however, the usefulness may be better seen in the motivation to learn, assisting special needs children, organization of materials, and as basically servile to teacher guidance.  I view technology as tools and opportunity providers.
